Bathtub Liners
Information on the development of bathtub liners and their use.
Bathtub Liners
Where and when bathtub liners were invented or first used is unknown. It is
believed that they were developed by federal engineers when constructing
low-cost government housing in large cities. From there, it is said to have been
adapted by the hotel industry and other consumers of large quantities of bathing
units.
In the past 20 years, entrepreneurs have spread bathtub liners around the
country as a low-cost alternative to bathtub repair or replacement. And although
these liners only claim a 1-2% market share of the bathroom refurbishing
business, they are expanding remarkable quickly.
But what exactly is a bathtub liner?
Description
A bathtub liner is a custom-fit unit that has been molded to the specifications
of your tub or shower and installed in one piece over your existing unit. Liner
manufacturers and installers have molds of hundreds of different models of tubs
and showers, which allow them to find the liner that will fit your fixture best.
The liners are made from acrylic or PVC and are very lightweight. They are also
very durable, scratch resistant, and will not fade.
